Magicicada - Putting Out Fires Unfinished

The first "official" release from Mr. Christopher White. Organic, droney beauty from the man with a field recording library that rivals Robert Rich. On Atlanta's Sub:marine Records.

Magicicada - Everyone is Everyone

Magicicada is the musical life of Atlanta musician/sound designer/photographer, Christopher White. "Everyone is Everyone" is an organic, experimental work that blends traditional, as well as folk and eastern, instruments with found objects, samplers and field recordings to create a work that varies from delicate, cinematic soundscapes to harsh electronic environments. The instrumentation includes (but is not limited to): pump organ, voice, contact mics on faulty electrical lines, melodica, toys, iron balls rolling on wooden floors, accordion, cellophane, air cans, tape decks for the blind, guitar, shruti box, MARTA (Atlanta's public transit), synths, oven door (percussion,) cellos, zurna, paper, frogs in the backyard, and the remains of Hurricane Denis shaking the roof.

Marblebog - Forestheart

Why is it that the best Black Metal Bands are usually just one guy? Burzum, Vediog Svaor, Xasthur, Striborg, Taarma, Leviathan, etc... Hungary's Marblebog is a one man unit that simply rules. "Forestheart" has been a favorite around the PG offices for the past few months, and when I saw that Autopsy Kitchen had brought it back into print, I was stoked to be able to get some copies for the mailorder. This is stellar, depressive black metal with a natural feel and the metal tracks are bookended by two dark ambient pieces, the final of which is simply stunning in it's use of keyboards. Autopsy Kitchen has another Marblebog album in the queue for 2008. I can't wait for it!

Lasse Marhaug - Spaghetti Western Rainbow

Hailing from the land of the rising snow, Lasse Marhaug has become one of the most commanding and respected sound artists in Norway. A salvo to Ennio Morricone, Spaghetti Western Rainbow stands testament to the Italian composer's enduring influence. Lasse Marhaug exacts Sergio Leone's slow, beautiful power and love for expanse with shades of Morricone's subtle witchery to create what will inevitably be considered one of his masterworks. Harsh, dry passages blend with drifting soundscapes, bird calls and an asseverate guitar figure that promotes an invigorating context for film musik. Beautifully packaged by Utech Records. This is HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended.

Lasse Marhaug - Tapes 1990-1999 4CD box set

The first release by Lasse Marhaug on his new label, Pica Disk. Deluxe 4 CD box-set containing almost five hours / 43 tracks of material selected from Lasse Marhaug's cassette releases in the 90's. From cut-up voice and turntable thrashing to harsh wall-of-sound power noise and scum sounds. Solo work and collaborations with Bad Kharma, Grunt, Macronympha and others. Packaged in a handsome custom-made solid box with a 24 page booklet of photos, cover reproductions and liner-notes by Tommy Carlsson (Abisko, Segerhuva) and Tore H. Boe (Origami Republika, The Nordic Miracle). Remastered by Tommi Keranen. Limited edition of 500 copies.

Kouhei Matsunaga - For Gemini and back to Heian (German Import)

Very cool little gem from the Japanese noise master who has collaborated with Merzbow, Finland's Niko Skorpio, and left-field NYC rapper, Sensational. How's that for diverse? This is packaged in a nice tiny 3" box that is wrapped with a sticker band. This label (Feld) released a Carlos Giffoni 3" in the same style a few years ago. Very cool and highly recommended, even though a bit pricey due to shipping from Europe.

Melvins - Joe Preston

If you like the Thrones, then you need to own this disc as it is perhaps the first Thrones record(even though it is a technically a Melvins record). When the Melvins recorded solo records (in the great tradition of Kiss), Mr. Preston avoided bringing in other musicians and teamed up with his drum machine to created the album that is perhaps the most non-Melvins sounding of the trio (the other two from Buzz and Dale are still fucking amazing, btw). Harsh, drum-machine cymbals that sound like sheets of breaking glass intermingle with crushing bass lines, feedback and odd sound samples for what is truly a fucking amazing work of art. And if you don't know Joe, shame on you. His resume is long and impressive... Earth, Sunn, Melvins, The Whip, High On Fire, Harvey Milk, etc...

Members of the Press - Modern Day Rome

Blasting new CD from this Omaha, NE trio that features brothers, Randy and Barry Cotton (Randy was a member of Ravine and Ritual Device)on dueling basses with Will Scharf(Keelhaul, Craw, Unsane, Meatjack) sitting in on drums. There's an awesome old school, midwest vibe here as MOTP channel large chunks of the late 80's/early 90's AmRep and Touch and Go back-catalogs and update it to make it their own. Released by Omaha's Sumwatt Records.

Microkingdom - Pro Hour

This is a gem and a half. The debut release from Baltimore’s Microkingdom, a chaotic, free-jazz unit comprised of three veterans of the Baltimore music scene... guitarist, Marc Miller (of the very popular Oxes and the not-popular, way underpraised, International Soundscape Internationale), drummer/composer, Will Redman (also of ISI, Open Music Ensemble, Spawn, and the very cool, bookmusic.org) and reedsman Jon Dierker (of the Recordings, New Volcanos, his own trios and quartets, etc., etc.). So what we have here is two long compositions each filling a side of the swirley green/white marble vinyl. This is limited to 300 copies, so get while the gettin's good.

Mockingwyrd - Cracks in the Void (Finnish Import)

Not much is known about Mockingwyrd thus far, except vague credits on a number of Finnish experimental releases. It is rumoured that Mockingwyrd is also a bass player in several doom & thrash metal, jazz and experimental groups. Shadowy names like Kaaos in Eccentris, Typhon Sleeps Heavily and Rytannia are repeatedly whispered among the gossip. Reportedly a mysterious bass wizard participating in a recent show by dark-ambient-experimental artist Cosine Nomine was also identified as Mockingwyrd.

Monarch! - Die Tonight (Spanish Import)

Die Tonight is the first Monarch! record to feature white as the primary color for the artwork. But this, of course does not make the music sound any less doom-drench and wretched. Fuck everything! Listen to Moss.

Malcolm Mooney and the Tenth Planet

Original CAN vocalist Malcolm Mooney teams up with SF's Tenth Planet for two killer space-out tunes, "Mogadishu" and my personal fave, "The Moth." The record art features paintings by Mooney. From Unfortunate Miracle.

Mutantea - Sleepy Sounds Electric (Finnish Import)

Mutantea is Anla Courtis (Reynols), J.Koho (Kulkija, Aan, Vapaa, Keijo & Free Players) and Jani Hirvonen (Uton, Aan, Last Night On Earth) - recorded early 2006 in Helsinki, at the night time, in the middle of darkest winter, after the show in gallery, just before going to sleep. Three electric guitars, with differert effects and styles to play, together in this mass, which gave us this wave called 'Mutantea'. Includes also arts by Bart de Paepe (Sloow Tapes). Limited release from Ikuisuus.

Numinous Eye - Live/Studio

I missed out on the NE release on Archive a few months back, but was lucky enough to grab a big stack of these LP's. This is such a stellar line-up of musicians featuring SF's Mason Jones (SubArachnoid Space, Trance, etc.) alogn with members of High Rise, AMT, Mainliner, Gay Barbarians, and Shibusashirazu Orhcestra! Limited to 490 copies on orange vinyl from our pal Gianni and his OKC-based label, Little Mafia.

Oaken Throne #4

Oaken Throne truly is one of the best magazines around these days. Originally exclusively devoted to black metal, the mag has expanded to include other forms of the heavy and dark arts. Issue #4 includes articles about Black Boned Angel, Nachtmystium, Withered, Celestiial, L'Acephale, Temple Of Baal, Thralldom, Vorkreist, Graves At Sea, Wolves In The Throne Room, and Villains. Plus tons of reviews and other goodness! And as with all issues of Oaken Throne, the cover is silver ink on nice black stock. A highly recommended read!

Oddateee - Steely Darkglasses

We've been a fan of Oddateee's for a few years now and after a recently meeting him, he is now on our list of our favorite people in the world. Oddateee is a Puerto Rican hip-hop maestro from Union city, NJ who got is start in the Labteks back in the day. This is his first album which is co-produced by Dalek and the Oktopus. His next will be dropping sometime in 2007 and he is also featured on the upcoming Deadverse Massive 12" due out on PG this summer. Pick this up and introduce yourself to one of the most dynamic lyricists active today.

Otesanek - s/t

We had this in stock a while back and sold out, but we just got more copies. Philadelphia?s Otesanek is one of our favorite DOOM projects and sadly, they are now gone. This is intense sludged out stuff in the vein of Monarch! or Boris at their heaviest. Highly recommended and priced to hit you right in the ear! Released by Electric Human Project.

Ovro - Gegendurchgangenzeit (Finnish Import)

Wow!! This recording was recorded live to an "audience of none"and originally "released"as a single disc given as a gift. Thank god Niko and the Some Place Else label convinced Ovro to give this the world, because it is quite amazing and beautiful. Quiet and delicate or loud and powerful, depending on what volume you play it at(and the liner notes recommend you experiment). Either way, spectacular!!!

Owl Xounds / Family Battle Snake (UK Import)

The Owl Xounds side is two live tracks of total freak out free jazz venturing into the world of noise through the insane pummeling Kriney gives the drums. The Family Battle Snake side is a total wall of destruction that is built and then dismantled before our ears. Hand-numbered edition of 50 from Blackest Rainbow.

Laurent Perrier - Downfall/Disperse (French Import)

Two 50+ minute tracks on two discs from Mr. Perrier who is also musically active as Heal and with Pylone. James Plotkin - Indirmek

James Plotkin has been flooring us all for years. Through his solo work and work with various projects (OLD, Khlyst, Phantomshmasher, etc) and collaborators (KK Null, etc.) Plotkin pushes his work to new terrain with each release. His new disc presents two very differnt live tracks, 32 minutes and 40 minutes in length, from live shows in NYC in 2006 and 2007. Track one holds a logical place in plotkins works, drone with guitar at the base, manipulated live via laptop. Track two is all laptop and revolves around splintered and fractured electronics swirled together to pulse and weave about creating an intense hallucinatory piece (that actually feels like a journey) filled with energy. This is part 5 in the Utech Arc series and of course, highly recommended.

Polvere - s/t(Italian Import)

Polvere is the electro-acoustic duo of Italian's Xabier Iriondo(who teamed up with Zu for their split 10" with Iceburn!) and Mattia Coletti (whose 2005 solo album "Zeno" is awesome!) Good stuff here. It's been spinning a lot in the PG office recently. Imported from Italy's Wallace Records, one of our favorite labels and the folks responsible for stellar releases from Zu, Tasaday, Oxbow, Fuzz Orchestra, Black Engine, Agatha, Dogon and so much more!

Poochlatz - Victims of Self Preservation (Israeli Import)

Latest release from the ever prolific Israeli artist Maor Appelbaum (Screening, Vectorscope), this time under the guise of Poochlatz. This Israeli artist continues to walk the path of extreme noise and Power Electronics here, with growling and screaming vocals, and some spoken Hebrew and Radio samples. This is music to exorcise the inner demons. A harrowing squalling piece of frightening electronics and assorted gizmos. Distorted and bended / blended into hellish shapes. It frizzles, crackles and drones with a will of its own. Released by Heart and Crossbone.

Public Guilt - t-shirt (Dave Cintron design)

The first t-shirt from Public Guilt. These were designed by Cleveland?s Dave Cintron, who is known to most as the man behind Terminal Lovers, Dimbulb, and the Downside Special. But Dave is killer artist as well (who has done a few covers for one of our favorite bands, Boulder) and we were happy as hell when he agreed to design this shirt for us. So, lay down ten bucks and get one of these. They are 100% cotton and mighty comfortable Sizes M - XL

Pure - Noonbugs (German Import)

Not to be confused with Matthew Bower's pre-Skullflower project of the same name, Pure is German electronic musician Peter Votava, who also runs the Doc label. Noonbugs is a dark, rolling ominous affair with lots of beautiful static-y hisses and reworked classical bits. The label (Austria's Mego) says and we like this... "In some ways this release can be seen as a take on the darker edge of 20th classical / avant garde as seen through a 4th generation raised on industrial / electronic mediums." Highly recommended!
