Planet
Y - Space Station CD / Digital Download
Planet Y is the mind-boggling teaming fof Yanni Papadopoulos
(known to most as the guitarist for Stinking
Lizaveta) and beep/boop guru, Charles Cohen. "Space
Station is a live recording of their improvisation at
St. Mary's (Baltimore, MD) on November 17, 2006. The
result is a mix of blissed out, spacey drones and frenetic,
lo-fi electronica. Limited to 500 copies and packaged
in the awesome Dualplover
gatefold wallet!
"It's like Subotnick meets Sun Ra meets
Schnitzler... It starts off with abstract alien chatter
mind-melding into echoing mechanical rhythms over which
the duo converse in utter outer-space vibrations, pulling
delicate, eerie melodies out of the ether, amidst dubby
plastic squelch and distorted atmospheres." -Aquarius
Records
"The Space Station at once transmits
and receives, and, not always stationary, voyages through
friendly and hostile galaxies, pauses in playful time-warp
purgatory twiddling the avant-whim, never staying or
going for longer than a few of your earth-minutes. This
is a strong, at times exhilarating piece; the boys maneuver,
switch-up and improvise their special little machines
with aplomb." -Aural Innovations
"In an age where it seems like everything
you hear sounds like something you heard somewhere else
already, this is highly original-sounding work whose
only real forerunner is possibly in the outer fringes
of Krautrock and the more tantalizing electronic diversions
of Sun Ra." -Dead Angel |
