Zu - Axion
(Phantomsmasher remix) / Chthonian (James Plotkin remix)
7"
James Plotkin and his alter-ego, Phantomshmasher remix
two tracks from Zu's latest album, Carboniferous, and
the results are mind-bending. "Axion" gets
twisted into a dense, futuristic assault of squeeling
sax, thunderous bass and blisteringly-glitchy percussion,
while "Chthonian" is converted into a warped
journey akin to Middle Eastern street music as heard
through the filter of hallucinogens.
This release is limited to 500 copies (250 on grey
vinyl, 250 on clear with grey haze). and comes with
a digital download card. These tracks will also available
as a digital downloads from FINA Music, iTunes, and
other digital retailers.
The "Carboniferous" album is available on
CD from Ipecac
and on LP from Trips
und Träume.)
"You know the definition of diabolical?
Taking two mutant-sounding tracks from the already bizarre
jazz-metal band Zu and turning them over to James Plotkin
(Old, Phantomsmasher, Khanate, Jodis, blah blah blah)
to torture into new and exotic shapes." -
Dead Angel
"...an interesting companion piece to
Carboniferous." - Letters from a Tapehead
"Plotkin clearly had a great time dissecting
these tracks." - Rock-A-Rolla
"Are you up for an experiment? Do you
have an open mind? Zu is your next favorite band."
- Tempelores
