November 17th, 2006

On Nov 17, 1558 Queen Mary I of England died, was succeeded by her half-sister Elizabeth I of England, and what is now referred to as the "Elizabethan era" began. On November 17, 2006, 448 years later, the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival will host an evening of experimental and rock music in their Elizabethan playhouse, St. Mary's. The evening will feature feature performances from Darsombra (Baltimore, MD), Members of the Press (Omaha, NE) & Planet Y (Philadelphia, PA). 16mm film and slide projections will accent the performances to fully make use of this amazing, multi-media, performance space. St. Mary's is not a club or a hall, but a church which has been converted for performance. The original stone and stain glasswork are intact and the ambience of this historic venue will add to and become a part of the evenings performances.

The Performers...

Darsombra
Darsombra is the experimental, solo outing of Brian Daniloski (also of the Baltimore's Meatjack and Trephine). Through Darsombra, Daniloski finds the balance between beauty and darkness. Though at times harsh and bleak, the music is ambient over hardcore, well crafted noise over well crafted metal. Crushing hums or lullful drones of the guitar provide the backbone, as Daniloski layers on ethereal soundscapes, feedback or field recordings. This performance will be the premiere of new Darsombra material and will feature Daniloski teaming up with drummer Arika Casebolt (formerly of DC legends, Circus Lupus & Antimony, and currently of The Whips) for a portion of his performance. Darsombra has completed two US tours and released 1 full-length album, "Ecdysis." General information can be found at www.darsombra.com. MP3's and print resolution pictures are available are available for download at http://www.meatjack.com/darsombra/epk.html

Members of the Press
Dual bass rock group Members Of The Press is a band that defies stereotype. Part hard rock, part punk rock, part experimental noise - MOTP cannot be pigeonholed into any one genre. But even with their independent roots and occasional industrial feel, MOTP creates music that is both catchy and memorable. MOTP features former members of Ravine, Ritual Device and Craw and a current member of Keelhaul. More information and MP3's are available at http://www.myspace.com/membersofthepress
