Tabata - Brainsville

Elsie and Jack is an amazing label and the beauty of their releases(each carefully created with local printers and hand assembled) is equally matched by the music. Mitsuru Tabata's (Zeni Geva, AMT, Marble Sheep, etc.) debut full-length is no exception. Amazing, psychedelic guitar work that goes from eastern influenced, acoustics to crushing dissonance. Quite spectacular and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Jorma Tapio & Terje Isungset - Aihki (Finnish Import)

One of the most interesting records I purchased in 2006 was Terje Isungset's "Igloo", a record made entirely from instruments made from ice!! (aQuarius Recrds turned me on to it and you need to go buy it from them!) Finland's Ektro Records recently released this gem, a collaboration between Isungset and Jorma Tapio, one of Finland's finest woodwind players. The result is an AMAZING mix of free jazz and free folk(all of course played on ethnic Scandanavian instruments.) Tracks range from full-on skittering onslaughts to delicate focused, shamanistic melodies. The vibe here is incredibly natural. If I didn't know better, I would assume this was recorded in a forest. Truly fucking brilliant!

Tarantula Hawk - s/t (album 1)

San Diego's Tarantula Hawk have gained respect as one of the front runners of the "new psych era." This is their first release(not to be confused with the second which is also s/t and features similar artwork by Kevin Ross) contains 6 songs morphed into one continuous track of heavy instrumental organ and bass driven "psychedelic-death-prog", laced with samples of vehement insects and wretched machines. Awesome all the way around. If I were a clever music reviewer, I would say something like... "sounds like Neurosis beating up Pink Floyd in the parking lot of a Eyehategod concert." Released by Oakland's Life is Abuse.

Tasaday - In Attesa, nel Labirinto (Italian Import)

Fans of Strotter Inst., take note. Tasaday isone of the most important experimental italian bands of the past few decades and on this disc, they are joined by Implied Sound's very own Christoph Hess (aka Strotter Inst.). This is referred to as their rock album, but this is Tasaday, so it is not rock like we all know it. Check this shit out. Released by the mighty Wallace records!

Teho Teardo - Tower/ Microphone (Italian Import)

A CD document of a Sound installation commissioned by Hic et nunc, contemporary art festival, San Vito al Tagliamento, Pordenone, 2005. 24 contact microphones were placed on the roof, on the walls, between the bricks, and under the round of an ancient tower. All 24 mics were plugged into a pa system which made the tower become a big microphone. The end result is gentle repetitive patterns that play out over a consistent and beautiful drone. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Released by Italy’s Final Muzik.

Terminal Lovers - Release Valve Rattle

We saw a lot of shows last year, but few floored us the way the Terminal Lovers did. 5 Guys from Cleveland, all pushing forty that plugged in and laid waste to everything in site, including the young opening bands with their costumes and hairdos. This is a brand new 3 track, 30 minute, slab of limited Terminal Lovers courtesy of Biological Records. This is by far the most kraut-y and space-y I have ever heard TL, but there is still plenty of bite like their first CD. We also have restocks of Dave’s other projects (Dimbulb & Downside Special) as well as the Speaker/Cranker Project he is a part of. All of it is Highly recommended!!!

Text of Light - A Fabulous Lunch (Italian Import)

Un Pranzo Favoloso (aka A Fabulous Lunch) was recorded on 26th May 2005 at Auditorium Concordia in Pordenone, Italy during the Schermo Sonoro - Cinemazero festival. In this incredible concert, Lee Ranaldo, Alan Licht, Tim Barnes and Ulrich Krieger played live with experimental film pioneer, Stan Brakhage's films. This recording captures it all. Released by Italy’s Final Muzik and recommend for sure!

Throne of Katarsis- Unholy Holocaustwinds (UK Import)

Lots of Black metal has been flowing into the mail-order of late, most of it new to my ears, but all of it killer! Throne of Katarsis is no exception. This is grim and cold Norwegian black metal that was recorded onto 4-track cassette. There's even a winter field recording captured in the nocturnal gloom of Norway's Liarlund Forests. Awesome!!! Limited to 750 copies, packaged in a slipcase and enclosed in a sealed silk-screened paper case. Released by the UK's Paradigms recordings.

Torche - s/t

What can I say about this record? Quite simply, it is one of the best records to come out within the past year. If you thought Floor's s/t CD was amazing, then you need this disc. Steve Brooks takes his songwriting and singing to a whole new level here. Crushing heaviness accented by melodic vocals and some seriously catchy melodic guitar work. ESSENTIAL!!!!! Brought to us in a beautiful digipak by Robotic Empire. (Note: This is the original version, not the remixed re-issue.)

Toroidh – The Final Testament (Russian Import)

TOROIDH is the cult project of Swedish genius Henrik Nordvargr Bjorkk (MZ. 412, Folkstorm, Goatvargr etc). "The Final Testament" was released on his own 205 Recordings label in 2003 and this, the original LP-version, has now been resurrected with exclusive material not available on the CD-version and two bonus tracks - "The Final Testament" and "Hail Wermland II" – as well as being newly mixed and remastered. A potent mix of strident Martial Industrial, Death Ambient, wartime fanfare and Neofolk. The more accessible side of Toroidh will delight the legion of followers of this monumental act. Limited to 500 copies!

Totimoshi - Ladron

The fourth album from Totimoshi. Slabs of crushing metered riffing and joyously ecstatic sludge ooze from the band's instruments over sunbaked vocal harmonies and flourishes of pure pop melodicism and bursts of old-school heavy metal energy. These songs wind through shadows of dusty blues and western music, riff-tastic instrumental rave-ups, squalls of immolating guitar noise, and smoldering post-punk dynamics clad in serious heaviness. Produced by Helmet's Page Hamilton and released by our buddy Adam at Crucial Blast!

New collaboration bursts from TB's duo of Jack and Ben with Chocolate Monk label boss and Blood Stereo man, Dylan Nyoukis,. Weird creeped out noise and vocal sickness. Hits in at over 50 minutes. Tree Creature - Treacherous Water Features

Tree Creature is a Georgia duo that works with layer upon layer of synths and organs. At times, doom-y organ-drenched atmospheres collide with cheery video game rhythms. Tsurubami - Tsukuyomi Ni(UK Import)

Third album proper from this Japanese trio consisting of Emi Nobuko (Drums) and Acid Mothers Temple duo Higashi Hiroshi (Bass) and Kawabata Makoto (Guitar). All the music on this four song / 66 minute album was completely improvised, and not over-dubbed. The sounds fall through different styles of head splitting walls of sonic noise, quiet introspective lulls and freeform freakouts. Nicely packaged with overly saturated and super colorful flower artwork by Riot Season.

27 / Bug - split (Austrian Import)

27 is one of my favorite bands. Their Codeine meets Portishead stylings are lush and beautiful and live they are one of the most dynamic and compelling bands to watch. Maria's gentle voice, Ayal's triggering samples(of Mingus!) with his feet while he playing guitar and Neil's rhythm's holding it all together are a site to see and hear. And on the b-side, Bug play a fast furious rock akin to early Craw. Radically different than 27, but very fitting. This release is a transparent purple 12" record in a sleeve that folds over at the corners leaving some of the vinyl exposed. Very nice release from our buddy Richie at Austria's Interstellar Records in collaboration with Noise Appeal Records. Cheers Richie!

Ultra Dolphins - Mar

Mar represents a fairly major departure from the Ultra Dolphin's previous spazz-oriented, garage band freak-outs. Without losing focus on songwriting, the off-kilter structures move continually forward building up frantic but calculated momentum. The result is a dizzying but somehow unified listening experience which features a band at the height of their creative prowess. Deliciously packaged by Robotic Empire.

Ulver - The Madrigal Of Night (Nattens Madrigal)

If you are reading this and do not have this album, listen up. Ulver is by far one of the greatest black metal bands of all time. They now score films and have been awarded the Norweigen equivalent of the Grammy, but this is their early black metal masterpiece. So harsh and intense, it made even the most fanatic of black metal listeners do a double take. The guitars are pure buzz-saw, vocals all treble and the drums are so buried, they become part of the overall vibe, but good luck picking out beats. If you sorta unfocus your ears a bit, the whole deal becomes white noise to the degree of almost drone. Fucking brilliant. This album is still ahead of it's time and it's over ten years old. ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL!!!!!

Uvall - October Turns...Ruined

Uvall's second album presents a more doomy atmospheric approach (highly influenced by the current USBM scene) to add to the frosty grim blizzard-based atmospheric Black Metal that is signature UVALL. Mesmerizing, melancholy, and deeply atmospheric (almost shoe-gaze-y at times), with songs that burrow permanently into your memory. v/a - Drone Records: A Selection Of Drones Past: Singles 1993-2000

Run by Stefan of Troum, Germany's Drone Records does two things that we love(drones and 7"s) very well! San Fransisco's tUMULt has compiled a handful of out of print Drone Records material on a 2CD set for what they call, "a digital introduction to the analog world of Drone Records." The artists featured include Maeror Tri, Alio Die, Dual, Ultra United, Delphium, Inade, Aube, Vance Orchestra, Osso Exotico, Klood, Vir, Reynols, Spear, Dronaement, Toy Bizarre, Tarkatak, Francisco Lopez, Kallabris, Yen Pox and Die Feinen Trinkers Bei Pinkels Daheim. A small sampling of wondrous sounds from this ongoing series of limited, lovingly hand assembled 7" singles.
